Cress Plain
Cress Plain/Common
Approximate Seed Quantity: 650
Who doesn’t remember growing this at school, or at your mother’s knee in the kitchen. The miracle of scattering seeds on a wet paper towel in a plastic box and watching them germinate in a matter of days. The wonderful peppery flavour is fabulous in an egg mayonnaise sandwich or scattered over a salad. They even add a hit of flavour to a soup or stew.
Commonly used as a microgreen they are full of vitamins such as A, E and K but don’t forget you can also let them grow into mature plants where handfuls of leaves will be available, packing the same flavour punch and super nutrients.
- Sow and harvest all year round
- For Microgreens scatter seeds on a wet paper towel that you have placed in the base of a 2.5 cm (approx.) deep plastic container. Reusing a supermarket one is ideal. Cover with clingfilm to create a mini greenhouse effect. Do not let the paper dry out.
- Germination: 24 hours to 3 days
- Harvest by snipping close to the base with a pair of scissors when seeds are approximately 5cm tall and use as desired
Alternatively you can also grow on soil in a 7cm pot and then grow on for mature plants. Either keep on the windowsill or plant out once danger of frost has passed. They can bolt so plant in a partially shady spot. Download sowing guide
